Igneous
commission, Amanda Clarke and Ramon Arrowsmith Tempe, Arizona
steel
18" x 24" x 12"
created 2010
With gas, rather than wood, being the choice for ecologically conscious indoor fireplaces, Kevin believes in celebrating the gas rather than using gas "logs." His first gas fireplace sculpture was Venezia.
Igneous is being created for a two-sided fireplace in which the two sides are perpendicular to each other.
The first photo shows Igneous in place, awaiting completion of the hearth and surround around the fireplace.
The second photo shows one of the panels almost assembled.
The third photo shows the scrap from a cutting table that Kevin reclaimed to create Igneous.
The thick steel won't buckle because of the heat. It will nicely reflect the heat into the room.
