Möbius
commission, Orme and Elizabeth Lewis Paradise Valley, Arizona
steel
39" x 22" x 20"
created 2008
Coaxing the steel to alternately twist and shrink, Kevin brought forth Möbius.
Perched on its stand, this Cor-ten steel stabile presents changing perspectives of light and shade as it moves lightly in the wind, turning its face to the mountains beyond.
The piece is named for August Ferdinand Möbius, a German mathematician and theoretical astronomer who is best known for his discovery of the Möbius strip, a deceptively simple two-dimensional surface with only one side and one edge.
