NIGHTSTANDSTILL
Artist's Collection
Phoenix, Arizona
Steel, mesquite and onyx
22" x 18" x 15"
2004
Most of the materials for NightStandStill have been kicking around the studio for years.
The steel feet came from a long disused brace, the onyx was a slab first purchased as
part of a shelf, the mesquite came from a tree that grew down the street from the
artist's home.
The tree grew large and healthy over a broken sewer line. "I would
have moved the sewer line and kept the tree," says Kevin. When the owners cut down
the resourceful tree, Kevin rescued it and cut it into rough planks, which rested
under the workbench for two years before this project began.
The knob on NightStandStill's drawer had just been attached when the table was put into
service.
"I wondered about bringing a piece with a rust veneer inside, but it's working out
beautifully."
