Oxygen-Acetylene
Oxygen-acetylene units are inexpensive and versatile.
Often called "gas welders," they use fuel gases and oxygen to weld, cut and bend metal. Developed in 1903 by two French engineers, it is one of the oldest types of welding.
Oxygen-acetylene welds by heating two pieces of metal to a temperature that creates a shared pool of molten metal. Filler is added as needed.
To cut metal, a special torch is used to first heat the material to red hot, then a blast of oxygen is used to cut through the metal.

Choosing a Welder: MIG, TIG, Arc or Oxygen-Acetylene? Aug 17, 2011 Kevin explains how he decides which welder to use: his MIG welder, TIG welder, arc welder or oxygen-acetylene welder based on what sort of sculpture he's working on and, of course, what's most fun. |

How to Bend Metal Using Oxygen Acetylene Sep 16, 2010 Kevin doesn't use his oxygen-acetylene unit for welding as much as for bending metal. This welding equipment is a key part of metal forming, and here he shows you how he bends metal with it. |

Metal Cutting: How to Use Oxygen Acetylene Sep 08, 2010 Kevin usually uses his plasma cutter for cutting metal, but sometimes the oxygen-acetylene torch is better for the job. It's easy to use - watch to see how. |

Welding: Oxygen Acetylene Dec 01, 2009 Welding with oxygen acetylene is as simple as 1-2-3. First, Kevin shares how to get your torch set right and what kind of rod to use. Second, he shows how to heat and weld the metal, and third, he demonstrates how to set his magnets on fire. Still, it's a good demonstration of basic oxygen acetylene welding, which has some similarities to TIG welding. |
